Today I am on my way to Geneva for a customer meeting. Before I left, I quickly checked my email and had some exciting news in my inbox. I got the confirmation that I passed the Microsoft Exam AZ-302 Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Certification Transition, which together with my previous exam, 70-535 Architecting Microsoft Azure Solutions, gives me the certification as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
Microsoft announced that there will be new exams (AZ-303 and AZ-304) for the Azure Solutions Architect certification. You can check out my AZ-303: Microsoft Azure Architect Technologies Certification Exam Study Guide.
Earning the Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification demonstrates skills and knowledge to advise stakeholders and translate business requirements into secure, scalable, and reliable solutions. Candidates have advanced experience and knowledge across various aspects of IT operations, including networking, virtualization, identity, security, business continuity, disaster recovery, data management, budgeting, and governance – managing how decisions in each area affects an overall solution.
I took this exam as a beat exam back in September at Microsoft Ignite 2018. For people who do not have already done 70-535, you will need to take AZ-300 and AZ-301 to get the Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect certification. The AZ-Series are the new edition of the Microsoft Azure Certification path. These exams were announced at Microsofts Partner conference, Microsoft Inspire in 2018.
There is a great blog post by Chris Pietschmann, about the state of the current Microsoft Experts exams.
I am happy about getting the confirmation about my second successful Microsoft Azure exam this year, after passing AZ-900 Microsoft Azure Fundamentals last week.

First of all, congrats on your certification!, i’m new in the Microsoft Azure platform and what i want to ask you is where to start to become a AZURE SOLUTIONS ARCHITECT EXPERT, i know there are three exams to take and pass to get this certification, but as a beginner on this platform which will be the first steps.
Thanks in advance Thomas!
Hi Edward
Thanks and I think you made a great choice :)
So I would recommend that you start with Microsoft Learn https://www.thomasmaurer.ch/2018/10/microsoft-learn/
They have an Azure Fundamentals Course which you can find here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/learn/paths/azure-fundamentals?WT.mc_id=thomasmaurer-blog-thmaure
This will also help you to get startet with the AZ-900 Azure Fundamentals exam: https://www.thomasmaurer.ch/2019/01/exam-az-900-microsoft-azure-fundamentals/ I would recommend these to for everyone who wants to get startet with Azure. :)
Hello Edward!
First of all, congratulations on earning the certification!
Second, I would like to ask you something. I’ve been working with Microsoft Azure for a while now (almost 1 year) but it’s pretty much with virtual machines, some network concepts and storage. I am thinking of doing this certification. What do you think? Should I do first the fundamentals and then start preparing for this one? I’m really wondering if this certification isn’t something that’s too high for me at the moment and I would like to have some feedback first.
Kind regards,
Francisco!
I have some doubt in this following questions ..
You have an Azure subscription that contains three virtual networks named VNet1, VNet2, and VNet3.
VNet2 contains a virtual appliance named VM2 that operates as a router.
You are configuring the virtual networks in a hub and spoke topology that uses VNet2 as the hub
network.
You plan to configure peering between VNet1 and VNet2 and between VNet2 and VNet3.
You need to provide connectivity between VNet1 and VNet3 through VNet2.
Which two configurations should you perform? Each correct answer presents part of the solution.
NOTE: Each correct selection is worth one point.
A. On the peering connections, allow forwarded traffic
B. Create a route filter
C. On the peering connections, allow gateway transit
D. Create route tables and assign the table to subnets
E. On the peering, use remote gateways
Lot of people are telling C and E . Please give your point of view why it is not A .
Hello,
I am in a bit of a dilemma. I just passed the AZ-900 and would like to get one more certification this year. I have access to these books:
AZ-301L01-A – Designing for Identity and Security
AZ-301L02-A – Designing a Data Platform Solution
AZ-301L03-A – Designing for Deployment, Migration, and Integration
AZ-301L04-A – Designing an Infrastructure Strategy
Can I use the above books for both the AZ-300 and AZ-301?
I would prefer to take the AZ-500 first and then the 300 and 301.
Since you took all of them, what do you suggest?
Thanks!
