Windows 10 Cortana

How to hide Cortana Search Box in Windows 10

During the last Windows 10 event in January, Microsoft showed the Cortana integration in Windows 10 and with Windows 10 Technical Preview 2 (build 9926) Microsoft released it’s first public preview of Cortana for Windows 10. Cortana helps you to do a lot of great things and I am a huge fan since I am using Cortana on my Windows Phone. The problem I have with the integration is the huge text box Cortana uses. And I don’t really need that box since I use the Windows Key anyway to open search.

Windows 10 Cortana Search box

To disable or hide the Cortana Search Box simply right click on the Taskbar, select search and enable “Show search icon”.

Hide Windows 10 Cortana Search Box

Now you only see the Cortana Icon instead of the Cortana Search Box. You can still just start to type by pressing the Windows Key or clicking on the Cortana Icon.

Nokia Wireless Charging Plate DT-903

Quick review of the Nokia Wireless Charging Plate DT-903

Some days ago I got some new Microsoft or Nokia gadgets. One of the was the Nokia Wireless Charging Plate DT-903 which basically does wireless charge your phone and has some other cool extra when you pair it via Bluetooth using NFC.

So what does the Charging Plate do:

  • Of course it charges your phone – The DT-903 Wireless Charging Plate uses the Qi charging standard. It works with a wide range of devices and it can be powered by a USB port. Take the DT-903 with you, plug it into a USB port and enjoy quick and easy charging.
  • It reminds you when your phone is low on battery – Pair a Bluetooth Low Energy enabled Lumia with the DT-903 and a soft light will ‘breathe’ from beneath the charger when the battery is low. A subtle reminder to charge your phone makes wireless charging even more convenient.
  • Get notifications – Know what’s happening on your phone without looking at it. When you have paired your Lumia with the DT-903, the notification light on the charger glows for missed calls and messages

To connect the Charging Plate to your phone, just hold it on the NFC symbol on the plate and you will get ask if you want to pair it.

After that you can find the settings for the Wireless Charging Plate in the Device Hub Settings on your Windows Phone.

So you can setup which notifications from which app you want your plate to glow and you can also define a night mode, where the glowing is disabled.

Overall I really like the new charging plate, it is a pretty cool gadget and I am really happy about the notifications. Since my phones is always on silent I don’t get the notifications. Normally I just had to grab my phone to check if there are some new notifications, now I know if there is nothing glowing, I can relax ;-).

Another cool app is Pimp my Band which allows you to set a custom wallpaper on your Microsoft Band. Just download the app from the Windows Phone Store and customize your Microsoft Band.

The Microsoft Band not just works with Windows or Windows Phone devices, it can also be used on iOS or Android devices.

Microsoft says the battery life of the Microsoft Band will be up to 48h and is only available in the US for $199 (Microsoft Store). I am totally looking forward to replace my Nike Fuelband with this devices.

OneDrive 1TB

How to get over 1TB of OneDrive storage

Well today Microsoft finally changed the storage you get on OneDrive. Since I get a lot of questions from people on Twitter, here is how you get over 1TB of storage available on your OneDrive account. Some weeks ago Microsoft announced some changes to OneDrive and Office 365. So you now get more free default storage from 7GB up to 15GB which is great but does not make 1TB. To get 1TB of extra storage is very simple, just buy Office 365 Home, Personal or University and you will get 1TB of extra storage on your OneDrive account. (The Office 365 website is not yet updated and show 20GB right now).

ConsumerSubscription_Table

Even if you have to buy this it is pretty cheap, you not only get 1TB of OneDrive storage you also get the latest Office programs and apps to install on your devices and you also get 60 minutes world on Skype.

I think this is a pretty cool deal, and you can finally store basically everything on your OneDrive.
