Still love my iPad

iPad

I still love my iPad. Now I really start to work with it. It keeps my life simple and easy.

First I start with a daily briefing with my todos (Things) and events for today. I also read a lot of news with my Google Reader app (Newsrack) which also syncs with my iPhone, so I always see whats new around the tech world.

Through the day I need it to get quick information about tech or other stuff. I also use it for social networks like facebook, twitter and so on.

iPad iTap RDP

With Apps like iTap RDP I can use it to control Windows Server in our Datacenter and create and read notes with Evernote. There is also a pretty cool Powershell Guide for the iPhone and the iPad called iPowershell.

iPadAt home I use it as a Remote Controller for iTunes, my Dreambox and other things. And if I have a moment i don’t need it, I use it as a Picture frame.

Important to note, the iPad does not replace my notebook or my iPhone, but there are a lot of new things, I never thought about I could do this way.

Updated my iMac to 8GB RAM

I just updated the memory of my early 2009 iMac to 8GB. Now I can see a nice performance boost by using my Windows 7 VM for work.

iOS 4.1 beta 2 calendar invites

iOS 4.1 beta 2 with calendar invites

Apple just released iOS 4.1 beta 2. After some testing I found something I was looking for in every release. In iOS 4.1 beta 2 you can now send calendar invites to other people by creating a new event.

Restore iPhone Backups from Time Machine

After my iPhone crashed with a new beta firmware I could boot it again. So I restore it and did some mistakes (stupid things happen). I lost my last backup from my iPhone. But I could restore it by using Time Machine.

I just restored the folders from yesterday in:

Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup

And everything was fine again.

Maybe you want to merge some backups or somethings like that. This could help you.

iPad arrived

My iPad arrived last Friday. After playing and testing the iPad the last days, I don’t know how I could live without this device. It makes life so much easier. I really love Apps like iTap (Remote Desktop), Things, Evernote, Safari, the standard calender app and and and…

It great with how much love Apple creates these devices and software. I will post a full review at the end of the week.

VMware Fusion: wouldn’t it be great…

VMware Fusion Logo

As a Windows System Administrator who works on Macs, Virtualization is a really esencial thing. I love to work with VMware Fusion and his Unity Mode, and I of course some other great features Fusion provides. So I had some thoughts about the next version of VMware Fusion.

Wouldn’t it be great if…

  • there would be an iPhone App to start and shut down VM’s and maybe some other small things like watching the performance… (really interessting feature if you use VMware Fusion for Server Virtualization)
  • Something like an Advanced View for some administrator features…
  • One of the Advanced things could be a monitoring for the performace of the virtual maschines
  • SNMP and SMTP features for monitoring maybe also something for the iPhone App and the Push notificationservice of Apple.
  • better performace, especially if you run more than one VM at the same time and of course the overall performace of Fusion.
  • visual effects, I really loved the turn around effect in Fusion 1 or was it paralles 3?
  • V2P and P2V, creat a Bootcamp Partition out of a VM and back with some simple clicks
  • Support for Microsoft VHD Files, maybe not best performance but working…
  • Templates, creat templates for diffrend Operating Systems, so you can setup a new VM really fast
  • Screen-Capture Tool for creating documentations
  • OpenGL Support
  • A powersafe mode for VM’s on a notebook
  • Mounting virtual disks in OS X
  • cloning VM’s (not just copy past)
  • up to 8 processors per VM (Mac Pro’s and Xserve)
  • creating virtual networks, closed from the real networks, for test environments
  • Change Settings on a running virtual machine, and take these settings after reboot
  • OpenCL, CUDA, ATI Stream Support (Snow Leopard)
  • OpenCL, CUDA, ATI Stream could be great for Import VM’s

Don’t get me wrong, I really love the easy and simple view of VMware Fusion, but I would love to see more advanced features.
