Cisco UCS and Microsoft Hyper-V R2

Last week we run our first tests with the Cisco UCS Bladecenter, VMware ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V R2.

I am really excited about the performance and the easy management of the Cisco Bladecenter. Maybe I get some more information about Hyper-V and the UCS out there for next week.

There is also a Microsoft TechNet event next Tuesday:

Cisco Unified Computing System + Microsoft Hyper-V/System Center = die Komplettlösung für Virtual IT und Private Cloud

Swiss Technet Event

Today I had the chance to visit Microsoft Switzerland. I visited one of the presentations called “Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 – What’s new?”. Speaker of the session was Markus Erlacher (Microsoft IT Consultant). As always Microsoft does a great job by host events like this.

I really recommend you to visit one of the next events (you can find them on the swiss TechNet Homepage). The will host this session “Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 – What’s new?” again in november.

So what is new in Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1? Basically there are alot of hotfixes and two main things in Windows Server 2008 R2.

iOS 4.1 beta 2 calendar invites

iOS 4.1 beta 2 with calendar invites

Apple just released iOS 4.1 beta 2. After some testing I found something I was looking for in every release. In iOS 4.1 beta 2 you can now send calendar invites to other people by creating a new event.

RsyncServer Service does not start on a Windows Server 2003

Today I got a error message from our monitoring that Rsync Service on one of our server doesn’t run. Reinstalling the service does not solve the problem. I could start the service but after some seconds the service stopped again.

The Event Log shows the following information:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: RsyncServer
Event Category: None
Event ID: 0
Date: 22.12.2009
Time: 08:30:52
User: WEB-WIN-xxx-xxx\SvcCWRSYNC
Computer: WEB-WIN-xxx-xxx
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( RsyncServer ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: RsyncServer: PID 1856: `RsyncServer’ service stopped, exit status: 11.
There is a pretty easy solution for this problem:
  • Delete the .pid file in the cwrsync directory (in our case this is: C:\Program Files\ICW)
  • now start the service
