E2EVC Copenhagen

Speaking at E2EVC 2014 Brussels

Some weeks ago my two sessions at the Experts 2 Experts Virtualization Conference (E2EVC) in Brussels this year got approved. After my first E2EVC in Hamburg in 2012 and two other E2E Virtualization Conferences in Copenhagen and Rome last year, I am proud to get another opportunity to present.

E2EVC Virtualization Conference is a non-commercial, virtualization community event. The main goal of the E2EVC is to bring the best virtualization experts together to exchange knowledge and to establish new connections. E2EVC is a weekend crammed with presentations, Master Classes and discussions delivered by both virtualization vendors product teams and independent experts. This is not just a Microsoft only event, this event covers products from all the big vendors in the virtualization area such as Citrix, VMware and Microsoft.

The event will take place from May 30 to June 1, and my session topics are still in development but I am proud to announced that I am presenting again together with Michael Rüefli.

Speaking at E2EVC 2013 Rome

E2EVC Virtualization Conference is a non-commercial, virtualization community Event. The main goal is to bring the best virtualization experts together to exchange knowledge and to establish new connections. E2EVC is a weekend crammed with presentations, Master Classes and discussions delivered by both virtualisation vendors product teams and independent experts. This is not just a Microsoft only event, this event covers products from all the big vendors in the virtualization area such as Citrix, VMware and Microsoft.

This year I already had the chance to speak at the E2EVC (Experts 2 Experts Virtualization Conference) in Copenhagen, and this November (1.-3. November) I get the chance to speak at the E2EVC in Rome. If you are working in the virtualization space this is absolutely the right event for you. Here are some numbers:

  • Attendees and experts from around 18 countries
  • 18 Microsoft MVPs, 15 Citrix CTPs and 6 VMware vExperts.
  • 20th event in 10 years

Together with Michael Rueffli I will do a session around System Center 2012 R2 Virtual Machine Manager and Windows Azure Pack.

SCVMM 2012 R2 and Windows Azure Pack: The Cockpit for your private cloud

SCVMM 2012 R2 and Windows Azure Pack: The Cockpit for your private cloud – New Features and Capabilities to build Windows Azure like private / hybrid clouds

So make sure you to checkout the E2EVC homepage and register for the event in Rome, Italy.

This will be my third E2EVC, as already mentioned I was speaking at the E2EVC Copenhagen this year and at the E2EVC in Hamburg last year.

Gartner Magic Quadrant for x86 Server Virtualization Infrastructure 2013

Windows Server 2012 Logo

Last year I already covered the Gartner Magic Quadrant for x86 Server Virtualization Infrastructure, and last week Gartner released the 2013 version. The Gartner Magic Quadrant includes all the major companies which do x86 virtualization solutions such as VMware, Citrix, Microsoft, Oracle, Parallels and Red Hat. Gartner shows the strengths and cautions of each vendor and also gives a little background about the market.

Another interesting fact that Gartner mentions in their article is that roughly two-thirds of x86 server workloads are virtualized.

If you look at the difference from 2012 to 2013 is that Microsoft get with the Windows Server 2012 release (which was not included in the 2012 Quadrant because the product was not launched at this time) really close to the market leader VMware.

Interesting in the 2013 version is also that Windows Server 2012 R2, Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 and System Center 2012 R2 aren’t included, so I expect that the Magic Quadrant 2014 will have a major change ;)

Microsoft Hyper-V moving forward

I just saw a blog post from Marcel van den Berg on his virtualization blog UP2V.nl. In his blog post he mentioned that Gartner has updated their annual overview of the x86 virtualization solution overview – Magic Quadrant for x86 Server Virtualization Infrastructure.

What is interesting to see is that Microsoft Hyper-V is moving closer to VMware vSphere. And I am really sure that this will be the same in the future, because when people realize what great product comes to market with Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V it can have a true impact on VMware sales/upgrades.
