Video Microsoft Ignite Live 2019 – Azure Stack Edge

At Microsoft Ignite 2019, I had the chance to interview different people across the Microsoft product groups on the Microsoft Ignite Live stage. In the next couple of weeks, I will share with you the links to the recordings of these videos. In this video, I was able to speak to Stephanie Krieger and Chris Dickens from the Azure Stack Edge team about the new AI on the edge with Azure Stack Edge, which was formerly known as Azure Data Box Edge.

Azure Stack Edge is a cloud-managed edge computing appliance that you subscribe to as an Azure service and deploy locally. Join us to learn how you can use intelligent applications at the edge for quick insights from your data and then aggregate that data in the cloud for deeper analytics.

I hope this gives you a short overview of Azure Stack Edge. You can check out the following links to get more information:

Azure is built from the ground up to manage at-scale, cross-geography environments with multiple operational models and DevOps patterns. The vision is to keep Azure at the center of the enterprise as the control plane for governance, management, and modern development and bring the Azure management capabilities and services to any customer environment. In this session, we demo one of the extension service to enable you to bring servers from anywhere to Azure and use Azure to get a compliance view for all your server assets.

I hope this gives you a short overview of Azure Arc for Server. You can check out the following links to get more information:

You can now watch Microsoft’s underwater Datacenter and fish on Live Webcams

A couple of months back Microsoft provided a look at Project Natick, which is basically Microsoft’s project to host datacenter in underwater. This brings obviously some challenges but also some advantages like cooling etc. Today Microsoft also added some public webcam streams to Project Natick, which allows you to watch the Underwater Datacenter and some fish.

About Microsoft Project Natick

Project Natick seeks to understand the benefits and difficulties in deploying subsea datacenters worldwide. Phase two extends the research we accomplished in phase one by deploying a full-scale datacenter module in the North Sea, powered by renewable energy.

 • Project Natick is a research project to build an underwater datacenter. Microsoft is investigating the numerous potential benefits that a standard, manufacturable, deployable undersea datacenter could provide to cloud users all over the world.
 • The Natick Phase 1 vessel was operated on the seafloor approximately one kilometer off the Pacific coast of the United States from August to November of 2015.
 • Phase 2 of Natick aims to demonstrate that we can economically manufacture full scale undersea datacenter modules and deploy them in under 90 days from decision to power on. The Phase 2 vessel was deployed at the European Marine Energy Centre located in the Orkney Islands, UK in June of 2018.
 • Project Natick reflects Microsoft’s ongoing quest for cloud datacenter solutions that offer less resource intensive options, rapid provisioning, lower costs, and high agility in meeting customer needs.

The new SkyDrive rocks…

Microsoft SkyDrive

Today Microsoft released some new SkyDrive Apps for Windows and Mac and alos offers 25GB of free online storage. I really love SkyDrive to keep my files in sync and access them everywhere. With the new apps the integration is much better, easier and 25GB of free storage is a fair deal.

Windows Live error 8600108 when syncing Windows Live with Windows Phone

Yesterday morning I realized I did not get any mails over night so something must be wrong with the sync of my Windows Live/Hotmail account. After checking my Windows Live account under settings –> Email+accounts I could see the message “account is not up-to-date”. By tapping on the Windows Live account I got the following error message.

Windows Live Error 8600108
Windows Live error

Not updated
We’re having a problem synchronizing with m.hotmail.com
Last tried [xx] seconds ago
Error code: 8600108
After searching the web for some time I found the solution, the problem only appeared when I was syncing E-Mail. After unchecking the E-Mail check box the sync worked fine, except the mail sync of course. Now after it seems that this had to be a problem with a email. I deleted the latest messages on live.com and check the checkbox for E-Mail in my Windows Live account on my phone again the sync worked fine again.

From support.microsoft.com:

This error can indicate a back-end mail server issue, which may be caused when Windows Live tries to sync an email with a large or problematic Word document such as an attachment. There could also be a temporary service outage.
