I’m excited to share that I’ll be speaking at Microsoft Sovereignty Day Portugal on May 12, 2026, hosted at the Microsoft Portugal office in Lisbon.
This half‑day executive event brings together leaders from the public sector and regulated industries to explore one of the most strategic conversations in Europe today: how to innovate with cloud and AI while staying in control of data, operations, and compliance.
Why Sovereignty, Why Now
Regulation is intensifying, geopolitical dynamics are shifting, and organizations need to prove not just where their data lives, but how it’s protected and how operations continue when conditions change.
Microsoft’s answer is the Microsoft Sovereign Cloud, built on three pillars:
- Sovereign Public Cloud: sovereignty controls built into Azure and Microsoft 365
- Sovereign Private Cloud: powered by Azure Local, for on‑premises, edge, and disconnected environments
- National Partner Clouds: operated by trusted local partners like Bleu and Delos
My Session — Technical Deep Dive Across Public and Private
In my session, I’ll connect strategy to architecture, covering both Sovereign Public Cloud and Sovereign Private Cloud with Azure Local:
Sovereign Public Cloud
- EU Data Boundary and advanced data residency
- Customer-managed encryption and External Key Management
- Confidential Computing for encryption in use
- Data Guardian, Customer Lockbox, and Regulated Environment Management
Sovereign Private Cloud with Azure Local
- Connected, intermittently connected, and fully disconnected (air‑gapped) operations
- Scale up to thousands of nodes within a single sovereign boundary
- External SAN storage, disaggregated deployments, and the latest NVIDIA GPUs
- Sovereign AI with Azure AI Foundry Local
The key takeaway: sovereignty isn’t a single product, it’s an architecture decision, combining public, private, and partner clouds based on workload sensitivity and business need.
Join Us in Lisbon
The agenda also includes an opening keynote, a session on European Digital Commitments, a technical session on digital resilience, and a customer panel with Portuguese organizations.
If you’re a CIO, CTO, CISO, architect, or partner working on sovereignty, this is the event for you.
