Yesterday I had the chance to do a webinar on Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V and Veeam Backup & Replication V7 R2 together with Moritz Höfer (System Engineer at Veeam). The webinar is in German and covers some of the new feature ins Hyper-V 2012 R2 and the Veeam Backup & Replication solution for Hyper-V with slides and live demos. I was already presenting at last years System Center Universe Europe and I loved it. So I really recommend everyone who has the chance to attend the event to register.
Finally I have time to write about this. We invested a couple of hours in 2013 and at the beginning of 2014. We are proud to officially launch the Cloud and Datacenter Management User Group short CDM.UG. The user group is focused on Microsoft Cloud and Datacenter technologies based on Windows Server, System Center, Hyper-V and Windows Azure. The goal of such a community is to bring Cloud technology enthusiasts together to share knowledge and learn from each other. The Cloud and Datacenter Management User Group offers several ways to spread the words and share knowledge, from local event over to online Lync sessions over to the our community platform in Yammer.
CDM.UG will start taking free registrations in a couple of minutes. Becoming a member of the Could and Datacenter Management User Group is easy, just go and the CDM.UG website and register for free. After you have registered you will get an invite to the closed Yammer group.
At this point I have to thank Marcel Zehner and Stefan Roth which are working on this community project and of course the community itself, with all the people and great minds out there, which share their knowledge day after day. Another thanks goes to Microsoft Switzerland, without their support such a project would not really be possible.
Today Marcel Zehner announced System Center Universe Europe 2014 in Switzerland. Last year I already had the chance to be part of System Center Universe Europe 2013 where we had an awesome lineup with great speakers. Now System Center Universe Europe 2104 will take place in Switzerland in September 2014. This time it will be a three day event with around 60 breakout sessions.
What is System Center Universe (SCU)?
System Center Universe is an community conference that is focused on systems management and virtualization topics such as Microsoft System Center, Microsoft Hyper-V, Microsoft Windows Server and Client Operating Systems and Windows Azure. The credo “top quality from the community to the community” is very important to us. That said it’s obvious that we have some of the best speakers and community leaders from around the world that will present high quality sessions at the conference.
Why SCU Europe?
Microsoft announced that they will not continue their main systems management event “Microsoft Management Summit” (MMS). With SCU Europe we want to try to compensate this big loss at least a little bit and bring the European community together to learn about the latest technologies, network with others and have a great time.

Well another year just ends and as in 2011 and 2012 I like to summarize things a little before starting with the next year. This year was maybe one of the busiest years for me and it was really fun. I had the chance to meet, talk and work with some really great people all over the world, and to list every single one would just be to much, but I want to make sure that everyone knows I am really thankful for that. I am also pretty happy with this year and the goals I reached, and for me everything worked out pretty good. Besides that I am really grateful that most of the people around me, like my friends and family and of course myself, are healthy, because this is something I cannot control and you need a lot of luck for that.
I tried to summarize some of the events and things I had the chance to do in 2013, there was a lot of other stuff going on but I think this does is pretty good.
2013 was my second year at itnetx gmbh where I am working as a Cloud Architect. Well this job brought me around some of the most beautiful places in Switzerland. And it still feels pretty cool to work in such a great company with so many talented people, know-how and interesting projects.
On Tuesday, December 03 I will present together with Markus Erlacher, former Microsoft Switzerland TSP and now Managing Director at itnetx gmbh, on a free Microsoft Switzerland TechNet event. The topic this time will be why and how you migrate from VMware to a Microsoft Hyper-V and System Center environment. The event will cover an overview about Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V and System Center 2012 R2 and all the Virtualization features you need in your environment. At the afternoon session we will also cover how you can migrate from VMware to Hyper-V so you can quickly enjoy the new Private Cloud solutions from Microsoft.
The event is free and in will be in the Microsoft Conference Center in Wallisellen Zürich. To join that event register on the Microsoft Event Website. The event will be in German and will no be streamed to the web.

Only a few hours left until I catch my flight with Marcel Zehner (MVP System Center Datacenter & Cloud Management) to Redmond for the second Microsoft MVP Global Summit this year. With the new product release cycle the Microsoft MVP lead decided to move the MPV Global Summit to the end of the year, and that’s why I am traveling the third time to Redmond this year. Microsoft again invites all MVPs worldwide (approx 4000) for a great week of learning, sharing and networking on the Microsoft Campus.
I am really looking forward to see other Microsoft MVPs and meet the Microsoft Product Groups which have provided so much support with the latest releases.
Also my travel equipment has changed a little since February this year, where I went to the MVP Global Summit for the first time.
- Nokia Lumia 1020 – Not only one of the best Windows Phones I have every used, its also a awesome camera which basically pretty important to me.
- Microsoft Surface Pro 2 – Since the beginning of this year I moved from a notebook to a Surface Pro and I have upgraded to a Surface Pro 2 now. And since the battery life of the Surface Pro 2 is now over a day for me, I don’t have to care anything else with me.
- Microsoft Wegde Mouse Surface Edition – Well a mouse simply makes you more productive.
- Surface Pro Power Adapter – Something great about the Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2 is that they both come with a power adapter which also has a USB port to charge my phone.
