Distinguished Judges for the UCS Power Scripting Contest

Cisco UCS PowerShell Scripting Contest

In the Microsoft world PowerShell is the tool to automate everything especially in your datacenter. I already mentioned that Cisco offers some great enhancements for the Microsoft Datacenter stack. If you are using a Cisco UCS solution you can integrate System Center Virtual Machine Manager, Orchestrator and others. But Cisco does also offer a PowerShell module for the UCS called Cisco UCS PowerTool. The UCS PowerTool allows you to automate management and deployment tasks very easily via Windows PowerShell. By the way, one of the coolest features in the Cisco UCS PowerTool is the ConvertTo-UCScmdlet.

Cisco announced the UCS Power Scripting Contest

Everyone is invited to share their scripts and possibly win some prizes by entering the UCS Power Scripting Contest on the Cisco Communities.  The contest will run until May 11th.  A distinguished panel of judges (Jeffery Snover, Rob Willis, Don Jones, Hal Rottenberg and Thomas Maurer) along with other members of the community will select the grand prize winner from a set of five finalists.

Distinguished Judges for the UCS Power Scripting Contest

I am proud to be one of the Distinguished Judges for the UCS Power Scripting Contest and I hope we will see some great solutions. To get more information about the contest check out the Cisco Blog from Bill Shields and the UCS Power Scripting Contest website.

The Birth of the Cloud and Datacenter Management Group

Finally I have time to write about this. We invested a couple of hours in 2013 and at the beginning of 2014. We are proud to officially launch the Cloud and Datacenter Management User Group short CDM.UG. The user group is focused on Microsoft Cloud and Datacenter technologies based on Windows Server, System Center, Hyper-V and Windows Azure. The goal of such a community is to bring Cloud technology enthusiasts together to share knowledge and learn from each other. The Cloud and Datacenter Management User Group offers several ways to spread the words and share knowledge, from local event over to online Lync sessions over to the our community platform in Yammer.

CDM.UG will start taking free registrations in a couple of minutes. Becoming a member of the Could and Datacenter Management User Group is easy, just go and the CDM.UG website and register for free. After you have registered you will get an invite to the closed Yammer group.

At this point I have to thank Marcel Zehner and Stefan Roth which are working on this community project and of course the community itself, with all the people and great minds out there, which share their knowledge day after day. Another thanks goes to Microsoft Switzerland, without their support such a project would not really be possible.

System Center Universe Europe 2014 announced

Today Marcel Zehner announced System Center Universe Europe 2014 in Switzerland. Last year I already had the chance to be part of System Center Universe Europe 2013 where we had an awesome lineup with great speakers. Now System Center Universe Europe 2104 will take place in Switzerland in September 2014. This time it will be a three day event with around 60 breakout sessions.

What is System Center Universe (SCU)?

System Center Universe is an community conference that is focused on systems management and virtualization topics such as Microsoft System Center, Microsoft Hyper-V, Microsoft Windows Server and Client Operating Systems and Windows Azure. The credo “top quality from the community to the community” is very important to us. That said it’s obvious that we have some of the best speakers and community leaders from around the world that will present high quality sessions at the conference.

Why SCU Europe?

Microsoft announced that they will not continue their main systems management event “Microsoft Management Summit” (MMS). With SCU Europe we want to try to compensate this big loss at least a little bit and bring the European community together to learn about the latest technologies, network with others and have a great time.

My 2013

Well another year just ends and as in 2011 and 2012 I like to summarize things a little before starting with the next year. This year was maybe one of the busiest years for me and it was really fun. I had the chance to meet, talk and work with some really great people all over the world, and to list every single one would just be to much, but I want to make sure that everyone knows I am really thankful for that. I am also pretty happy with this year and the goals I reached, and for me everything worked out pretty good. Besides that I am really grateful that most of the people around me, like my friends and family and of course myself, are healthy, because this is something I cannot control and you need a lot of luck for that.

I tried to summarize some of the events and things I had the chance to do in 2013, there was a lot of other stuff going on but I think this does is pretty good.

Switzerland Montreux

2013 was my second year at itnetx gmbh where I am working as a Cloud Architect. Well this job brought me around some of the most beautiful places in Switzerland. And it still feels pretty cool to work in such a great company with so many talented people, know-how and interesting projects.
